Fly-in 16 - 17 June 06
Flying over Østfold, in formation with Papa Zulu, to the GAP (Good Aviation Practice) fly-in at Starmoen.
Starmoen is the main Norwegian glider center at the north east of Oslo. The weather was hot, very hot. The annual GAP fly-in gathers ultralights, general aviation and gliders together.
I was parked next to Spirit of Little Norway, the Cornell PT19 that was used to train Norwegian pilots in "Little Norway" in Canada, during World War II
Out on a two days' trip, my "co-pilot" was my tent and sleeping bag.
Later that day, I flew to Dokka, a small grass field in a valley north west of Oslo.
About 25 ultralight aircraft had come to our annual Norwegian Championship.
Happiness is to sleep "under the wing" in a beautiful place together with good friends.
Next morning we had breakfast in the hangar.
After that, we started our navigation test, about 113 NM with 5 check points. Here, I fly near Lillehammer that was the host of the winter Olympics in 1994. The ski jumping ramp can be seen on the hill side.
Then it was up in the mountains, to the Synnfjell top that has still a bit of snow.
One of the five check points was the airfield of Fagernes. In the background, the snow covered mountains of Jotunheimen.
The Olsjøen lake on the return leg.
Stondafjorden in the depth of the valley.
After the precision landing competition, I came as number 18 out of 19 participants. But it was fun. Later that day, I flew home, passing Drammen in the evening sun.
