Winter Kitfox flying - 12th March 06

Here are a few photos taken from a short VFR flight around where I live, in Norway.

Eikern

The lake Eikern. It almost never freeze entirely because it is very deep. Unlike all the other lakes in south-east Norway, this one runs northward, toward the Drammen river.

Hokksund

Hokksund, on the side of the Drammen river. For those who know the place, about in the middle of the photo is the Hokksund airfield, a grass runway much used by gliders. Not easy to find it, even during the summer!

River

The Drammen river, the town of Drammen, and beyond, the Drammen fjord, which leads into the Oslo fjord.

Drammen

Drammen, where the river meets the fjord and the Ro-Ro car terminal. This is where all new automobiles arriving in Norway by Ro-Ro ships, arrive. Note that while the fjord is still frozen, ice breakers keep it open to maritime traffic.

Holmestrand

An island, in the Oslo fjord, used as a toxic waste depository. It is supposed to be dug in a solid chump of granite rock and will withstand anything. Something many environmentalists contest.

Sande

The home of my friend Ludvig,  in Sande, and his private landing strip, in the foreground. You have to know where to land!

Horten

The town of Horten, where I work. Far behind, Østfold, the easterly side of the Oslo fjord.

Jarlsberg

Jarslberg ENJB, my home airfield, in the foreground, and Tønsberg, where I live, behind. The Oslo fjord can also be seen on the horizon.

Kitfox

Tango, my Kitfox 3, with her wheel-penetration skis. I love her and I hope she loves me too.
